Update on the Delphi round for sustainable medicine initiatives
For pillar 2 of Together for greener healthcare, the first questionnaire of the Delphi study has now closed, with 51 respondents completing it in full. This means we will be planting 51 trees! The participation rate was 85% in this round, which is a great result!
In total, 44 sustainability initiatives for medicines were evaluated by a panel of physicians and pharmacists working in Dutch hospitals. The initiatives can be applied in both outpatient and inpatient care and focus on:
💊 Deprescribing (reducing or tapering unnecessary medicine use)
🌿 Switching to more sustainable forms of administration (for example, oral instead of intravenous where possible)
Two more rounds will follow, during which participants will vote on the suitability of the initiatives for national implementation. After that, the four most suitable initiatives will be selected for inclusion in the programme.
