Kick-off video: official launch of Greening Healthcare together

With the release of the kick-off video, the official starting signal has been given for a greener, healthier future in healthcare through the Together for greener healthcare programme. In the video, three healthcare professionals, Joke Boonstra, Nicole Hunfeld and Joris Uges, share their ambition to make the healthcare sector more sustainable together.

The Greening healthcare together programme focuses on accelerating sustainability within the healthcare sector in collaboration with healthcare institutions, professionals and partners. In the kick-off video, Joke, Nicole and Joris highlight the importance of concrete action, collaboration and leading by example within the sector.

Nicole Hunfeld, hospital pharmacist and Programme Lead of Together for greener healthcare: “As healthcare professionals, we do everything we can to keep people healthy. But did you know that the healthcare sector itself is responsible for around 7% of CO₂ emissions in the Netherlands? That’s why nearly all 70 hospitals are joining forces.”

Joke Boonstra, member of the Executive Board of Erasmus MC: “Especially now, with the increasing pressure on healthcare and the climate crisis, things can and must be done differently. That’s exactly what we’re doing with this programme, full of proven sustainable interventions that you can easily apply in your department.”

Joris Uges, board member of the Dutch Hospital Association (NVZ): “We want sustainability to become as natural as quality and safety. It should be a consideration in every decision, across the entire hospital.”
